#WeWantToKnow: Tina Griffin of Blitz Facial Bar

Is there any greater luxury than treating yourself to a facial? The skin is the largest organ on our body and we shouldn’t neglect caring for it. Tina Griffin, Director of Blitz Facial Bar by Body Blitz, believes that skin care is a necessity and shouldn’t be thought of as a luxury, and and aims to make facial skin care accessible to men and women (with facials starting at just $48). I had the chance to sit down with Tina to learn more about her background and how she takes care of her clients’ skin, as well as experience a facial at their PATH location, and it’s a pleasure to introduce you to Tina and Blitz Facial Bar.

Tina is a medical aesthetician with over two decades of experience in her field. She ran her own spa before getting into skin care education, and spent 14 years teaching aspiring aestheticians at college programs. Blitz Facial Bar is an expansion of the Body Blitz spas founded by Laura Polley, and Tina joined the company in 2015 as a consultant to launch Blitz Facial Bar, developing the spa menu, the facial treatments, and the products in their skin care line, as well as selecting and training the team of aestheticians. She is now Director of Blitz Facial Bar’s four Toronto locations (and they also have a fifth location in Brooklyn, NY).

Tina is an advocate for skin care and is so passionate about teaching her craft. One of Tina’s favourite parts of her job is training her staff, and she also takes a genuine interest in educating the clients she treats so that they better understand their own skin. Tina also favours the development side of her job — from opening new locations, to creating new products. Blitz Facial Bar sells a complete line of skin care products so that you can recreate the salon experience in your own home, and since the beginning, Tina has developed Blitz’s products with quality ingredients that hydrate the skin, and that are free from adverse ingredients such as sulphates and parabens.

My experience receiving a facial treatment at Blitz Facial Bar was completely relaxing. The environment of the spa was soothing, it was dimly lit with soft music playing, I was given a blanket to cozy up with, and having my head and face gently massaged put me completely at ease. It surprised me how relaxing it was because the phrase “chemical peel” sounds intimidating, but all the products used were gentle on my skin and nothing about the treatment felt harsh at all. I could see and feel the fresh glow on my face afterwards, and when my skin started to peel a few days later (an expected part of the process for the treatment I received), I was happy to see all of that dead skin go and to see my rejuvenated face underneath. It was a really special experience and what I learned from Tina has reinforced my need to take better care of my skin.

I can't start my morning without…cleansing and exfoliating my face.

I have a weakness for…anything salty.

Most people don't know that I…learned to drive a motorcycle.

Currently reading… “Heal Your Gut” by Lee Holmes.

An important lesson I learned from a challenge I faced…I think learning from every challenge whether personal or business related, has taught me to reflect on my past experiences with an open mind. Learning to accept my weaknesses, recognize my own strengths and above all trust myself and listen to my gut instincts is something that I always try and take away with every lesson life throws at me.

I want…The quickest thought that comes to mind is my family’s happiness.

Thank you, Tina, for participating in #WeWantToKnow
