October One Room Challenge Linking Event

I can't believe that the next round of the One Room Challenge is less than a month away! In case you're not familiar with the ORC, it's a decorating event created by Linda from Calling It Home, where designers and decorators transform one room of their house (or a client's house) over the course of six weeks. Linda and 19 other participants update their progress every Wednesday, and anyone else who wants to join in on the fun can link up the following day and share their progress. I was a linking participant in the last challenge that ran from April-May earlier this year. To read about my home office makeover, click here or click on the ORC image at right in my side bar.

Desk in my home office
I'm not sure which room to choose for next month's One Room Challenge event. Other than my home office (which still needs some finishing touches), every room in my house needs some major work. Here are the rooms I'm considering for the next ORC:

Staircase

I know - technically this isn't a room. But it's an area of my house that needs to be done. I ripped the carpet off my stairs three years ago and still haven't completed the job. You can read more about that here, and in the meantime, allow me to share this image that has been my unwavering source of inspiration since I started my staircase project:

Kitchen

The kitchen is my least favourite room in my house so I don't spend very much time in there. Don't get me wrong - I love cooking and I want to spend more time in there, but it is just. so. ugly. It needs to be completely gutted and renovated, so I've been reluctant to spend any money in this room until then. A couple of years ago I went as far as quoting a reno and started to select materials, but it just wasn't the right time. But I can't take it anymore. I need to do something. It's clear that I won't be making any major changes soon, and we all know that a little bit of paint and a few accessories can go a long way in making a big difference for little cost.

Mudroom

My mudroom becomes the primary entrance to my house during the spring/summer/fall months when my main method of transportation is my bike. I store my bike in my mudroom, along with other things like garden gloves, half-empty spray paint cans and other miscellaneous items. Even though the room is only 6'x9', it is begging for a little jazzing up. My original design plan to paint the walls turquoise, lay down some black and white tiled flooring and accessorize with punches of red is still on my mind and I'd like to finally get around to implementing it. Very 1950s retro diner styles. Love.

Living Room

My living room has been a work-in-progress since spring of last year. Since then, I've slowly been making changes, but those pesky bedfellows otherwise known as Time & Money have been holding me back from finishing. I have a lot going on this fall and may not have time to dedicate to a complete room makeover, so perhaps I will use the motivation of the ORC to finally get this room done. Here is a vignette of the sofa area in my living room in its transitional phase:

So, what do you think? Which room do you vote that I makeover in October's One Room Challenge?
