2016 GOALS


Happy New Year! I can't believe we're more than halfway through January and I'm only saying this now. Better late than never though, right? I wrote down my New Year's resolutions a couple of weeks ago and can honestly say that I've been sticking to them. So far, so good! I want to document them here, too, so that I can be held accountable and so that I can look back on them any time I feel like I'm slipping and need a little kick in the bee-hind. 

I've broken out my resolutions into three categories, each with specific goals and a "roadmap" of how I'm going to reach them. The categories, in order of importance, are: 

1) Health & Wellness  2) Career  3) Relationships 


HEALTH & WELLNESS

My health and wellness is usually a priority for me at all times of the year, but I've been slipping a little. I generally eat healthy, but I haven't been regularly active since I quit my gym membership more than two years ago. My goals are: 

  • Get my eczema under control! 
  • Have clearer skin (this relates to the first point, but specifically I'm referring to clear facial skin) 
  • Feel more limber and fit (I swear to you, I'm like an octogenarian in a 35-year-old's body) 
  • Improve general health 
I intend to reach these goals by eating healthier (i.e. reducing added sugar intake, cooking for myself, consuming less alcohol), drinking more water and getting more exercise. I'm happy to report that I've been cooking my weekly lunches and dinners on Sundays for the last three weeks and I joined a gym that I've been going to regularly (Barreworks - love you!!). I plan to maintain a schedule of 3-5 classes per week at the gym. I don't expect that I'll be able to spend all my Sundays cooking, so on the days that I can't I will be sure to schedule time during the week. 

CAREER

This one is very simple: 
  • Do something I'm passionate about 
I'm in one of those predicaments where I love the company I work for, I love the people and the department I work with...I'm just not passionate about the job that I do. I'm passionate about producing excellent work no matter what my role is, that is the work ethic that is ingrained in me, so until I find a more suitable role I'm-a keep putting my all into my job. I'm very fortunate to work for an executive team that is supportive of my desire to work in a more creative field and motivate me to go in the direction of my passions. I intend to reach my goal of doing something I'm passionate about by networking and creating opportunities

RELATIONSHIPS

I'll admit - I can be quite the homebody. I always have a great time when I'm out with friends, but I'm the worst at reaching out to initiate plans. Basically, invite me out and I will accept, but don't expect me to make contact. It's awful, I know, and I need to change this. My relationship goals this year are to: 
  • See friends more often; build and nurture relationships 
My plan to achieve this goals is to initiate plans with friends more often. I need to spend more time with my long-term friends who have been there for me at times when I was at my lowest points, friends who have unconditional love for me, friends who are honest with me when most others will simply pacify me. I miss spending quality time with these friends and need to see more of them in 2016 and beyond. I will also continue to cultivate the more recent relationships I've made - I've had incredible opportunities to meet people I'm inspired by, and I would like the chance to get to know each other better. 


I have every intention of sticking to my new year's resolutions, and I have great faith in myself because I've been wanting to make these changes for the past few months. Sometimes it just takes the collective will of the masses (ahem, New Years Resolutions) to keep us going. Besides, I've already seen early results which gives me the momentum I need to continue down this path of greater health.
