Last month, my mum and I took a trip to Prince Edward County in Ontario to stay at the picturesque Sage House, a vacation home that my friend Amanda and her husband Brandon bought and fixed up to rent out on Airbnb. You may have seen the few photos and videos I posted on Instagram while we there and today I'm sharing the full house tour as well as some details about the house that I learned from Amanda. It's a lofty dream of mine to one day move to PEC, renovate a home there and turn it into a Bed & Breakfast, so it's really cool to have a friend who's done something very similar. Sage House is cozy and welcoming and completely Instagrammable - just take a look for yourself!
The living room is my favourite room in the house - the deep-set sectional sofa and curtained doorway make it the perfect spot to cozy up in the evening for a movie night with friends. The minimal decor throughout the house, made up of light wood tones and natural finishes peppered with blues and greys and pops of greenery, adds to the cozy factor. (I thought I recognized most of the furniture and correctly guessed that most of it is from Structube - one of my favourites for furniture and home accessories!)
The dining room features a harvest table that seats 10 (the entire house can accommodate up to 14 guests at one time). Upon arrival, guests are greeted with a personal note and are gifted with a bottle of wine from one of the wineries in the area.
The kitchen has this beautiful gas range and would you believe it was already in the house?! The bottle corker and meat scale on the shelves next to the stove are antiques from Amanda's family - her great-grandparents used to bottle their own wine so it seemed only appropriate to display their bottle corker in wine country!
There are 4 bedrooms upstairs comprising 6 beds, comfortably sleeping 12 people (plus there is a futon on the main floor that sleeps another 2 people). There's also a bathroom upstairs and it wouldn't be a charming 100+ year home if it didn't have its quirks, and sure enough this bathroom is accessed through one of the bedrooms. But if that weirds you out, don't fear, there's another bathroom on the main floor just off the dining room. :)
The beds are so incredibly cozy, and made up with a ton of pillows and the softest bedding from IKEA. I had the most comfortable sleep that I can remember in years.
My mum and I really enjoyed our stay at Sage House - it's the perfect place for a 'staycation' and to get out of the city for a few days (especially if a big trip isn't in the budget). There's lots to do in the area - winery tours, antiquing, spending a day on the beach at the Sandbanks, and more. Located in Wellington, Ontario (Prince Edward County is the name of the greater overall region), Sage House is just steps away from the Drake Devonshire Inn and their popular restaurant, and there's a grocery store across the street if you plan on doing your own cooking in the house's amazing chef's kitchen (which is equipped with everything you'll need to prepare and serve your own meals). Rates start at $396 CAD per night and go up from there, depending on the time of the year and how many guests will be staying, and this gives you access to the entire house. Summer weekends are already filling up fast so book soon! Or do what my mum and I did and take a mid-week holiday. Check out the Sage House listing on Airbnb here. In the meantime, I'll leave you with just a few more photos of this beautiful place.
Many thanks to Amanda for having us at Sage House! By the way, Amanda is a fellow blogger! Check out her food blog Everyday Allergen-Free.
