One Room Challenge: Porch Makeover, Week 5

Hello, and welcome back for another weekly update on my porch makeover that I'm doing as part of the One Room Challenge, a friendly decorating challenge created by Linda of Calling it Home. We are already in Week 5 out of 6 so if you're just stopping by for the first time (and if you're wondering what this whole ORC thing is about) please visit my previous updates here:

In terms of the effort involved in this project, it's about 80% painting, 15% sourcing/shopping and 5% install/set-up. So once again I'm going to give you yet another update on painting!! But this time, a little work made a huge impact. Just check out how amazing my custom colour blue looks on the porch floor, railings and columns!

Now that the hideous, glossy dark brown is gone I'm finally starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Here's another look that illustrates how great this colour is in comparison to the brown area that I still need to paint:

I also started painting the black stripes on the ceiling last night but I'm not happy with how they look. As much as I fancy myself skilled at cutting-in free-hand, it's just too difficult to get perfectly straight lines at that angle. And because of the grooves in between the slats, I'm not able to stick on painters tape. The effort vs the reward just isn't worth it. So I'm going to paint over the two black stripes I made so far with white. I'm not bummed though, the blue and white is going to look great.

This past week I also made progress in the toss cushion department. You might remember a couple of weeks ago I pulled together this assortment to choose from:

I ended up ordering the palm leaf pillows from Tonic Living - a) they're gorgeous; b) they're made with an outdoor fabric; and c) they ship locally so I was able to place my order on Friday and they arrived yesterday.

There is a good chance I may not get around to working on the DIY coffee table that I had planned so I might end up pulling an end table from inside for now. But I did have an idea for another project I can do quickly this week: paint the handles and edges of a wooden tray I have white and paper the bottom with marble contact paper. I already have all the supplies and have been looking for an excuse to use the contact paper that I ordered months ago.

Come back and visit next week for the big reveal!

In the meantime, check out the progress of the other amazing projects that the 20 sponsored ORC design bloggers are working on here, and the progress of my fellow linking participants here
